This degree, which is the chief tribunal of masonry in the rite to which it belongs, was instituted in the year 1786, under the following circumstances: By the constitutions of the Scotch rite, which were ratified on the 25th of October, 1762, the king of Prussia was proclaimed as its chief, with the title of Sovereign Grand Inspector General and Grand Commander.
