RELATIONSHIP OF FEDERAL GRANTS FOR RESEARCH AND PRIVATE FUNDS FOR THE SAME PURPOSE IN THE FIELD OF CANCER RESEARCH The National Cancer Act was enacted into law in 1937. The National Cancer Institute was the first large-scale unit in this country devoted to fundamental cancer research. There is a close cooperative working relationship between the National Cancer Institute and some of the more recent private cancer research centers. The National Cancer Institute and the Federal funds made available thereby for grants-in-aid for cancer research has not dried up private sources but rather there has been an increase in the availability of private funds since the inception of the Federal program. This is further substantiated by the fact that although Federal money is available for grants-in-aid in this field, there has been no deluge of requests for such funds from the hundreds of centers now carrying on cancer research. The American Society for the Control of Cancer was organized in 1913 and a year and one-half ago its name was changed to the American Cancer Society. Originally, this organization served primarily as a lay educational group and was composed of both professional and lay people. In the years immediately preceding the war they received approximately one-quarter million dollars through contributions. During the war years contributions amounted to about one-half million dollars. Since the organization became the American Cancer Institute a drive was put on for funds which last year netted $3,000,000. Of this $3,000,000, $500,000 has been made available for grants-in-aid for cancer research through the Committee on growth of the National Research Council. It is understood that $400,000 is available for such grants as soon as the initial $500,000 has been used. The other $2,100,00 is being used in (1) an educational program, (2) the care of patients suffering from cancer, and (3) mobile clinics (prevention). The Sloan-Kettering Research Institute has established a fund of $4,000,000 for the building of a research institute at the Memorial Hospital in New York and for research in the field of cancer. Due to increased building costs, it was apparent that this $4,000,000 would not be sufficient to carry out the program and public-spirited citizens in New York and elsewhere contributed an additional $4,000,000. This research institute, privately sponsored, will provide o

A little AI generated #Diddy regarding AI, from the perspective of an AI
While AI will undoubtedly automate many tasks and impact various job roles, the claim that no one will have a job in ten years due to AI is an oversimplification. AI is more likely to augment human capabilities and create new job opportunities, especially as technology advances and new industries emerge.
Here's a more nuanced perspective:
AI's potential impact on the job market:
Automation:
AI and automation will undoubtedly automate many repetitive tasks, potentially leading to job displacement in certain sectors, says a report from Forbes.
Job creation:
However, AI is also likely to create new jobs, particularly in fields related to AI development, maintenance, and deployment. New ...
